[ndcf] Trail Maintenance

Greetings Everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks to Martin and all the others who have stepped up
to help with the trail maintenance on our local MTB trails. Maintaining the
trails has become a daunting task as for the past few years it has
predominately been myself, Brian Beattie, Mark Liebig, and Dewy Hertz
keeping up with the building and mowing. It has been suggested by a few of
you that maybe we consider trail assignments for maintenance - assign a
group to each trail to keep it mowed and maintained which I think is a
fantastic idea and it would certainly help keep things in shape for summer
riding - especially in a summer like this one where we have had a lot of
rain which results in a lot of growth on the trails. The club does have a
trail mower and a rider mower that can be used for this purpose along with a
variety of trail tools etc. We would ask and require those that are
interested in doing trail maintenance with the club-owned equipment that you
become an NDCF member. This is required for our liability insurance with
the club. Also your club membership does help us with other club projects
as well as it would also afford us to buy additional maintenance equipment
for future use to eliminate the need to rent or borrow equipment. Also, as
NDCF members your time spent in building and/or maintaining trails also
serves as "in-kind" matches for future grant applications. Please keep a
log of your time you put in doing any trail maintenance. This year we did
get a matching grant to put trail markers on the Sunset Park Trail in Mandan
as well as we have been working with the Bismarck Park District to get trail
markers for our Bismarck trails as well. We will probably be installing
trail markers on both Pioneer and Sleepy later this summer - your assistance
will be greatly appreciated in that effort.

One thing that we would ask is that no new trail building be done without
consent of the respective park district and NDCF trail coordinators. It is
extremely important that we design and build trails that incorporate well
into our existing trails and that meet IMBA standards for trail design and
maintainability. Everyone's ideas are certainly encouraged and welcome but
we need to make sure that they all fit into good overall trail design for
the future.

Thanks again to all those that will be participating in future trail
maintenance - this will certainly allow more time for all to ride and enjoy!
Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!

Subject: [ndcf] Trail Maintenance

Greeting All,

Due to the vast amouts of rain we received in past weeks,
some trails around town are in dire need of some maintenance. I am
organizing a day of maintenance on Saturday, July 7th. I am putting up the
money to rent a tall weed mower and am looking for some help. If you have
mowers, weed wackers, gasoline for the equipment, or whatever, we could use
your help. I don't think much dirt work is needed just some weed clearing
mostly. We are meeting at 8:00 am on Saturday, July 7th at the Mandan
Community Center. If we get enough people together it will go fast, and we
could possibly head over to the BSC trails and do those as well. We will
have to see how it goes. I will rent the tall weed mower for a 24 hour
period so we might as well take advantage of it. I am not asking for a full
days commitment, just whatever time you can spare. Please let me know, and
thank you in advance.
